Ban on wet wood and household coal

The news that broke this week may come as a bit of a shock and some have already called, with concerns regarding sourcing their fuel. But for us this is not unexpected and is actually great news!

90% of the calls we receive from concerned customers, advising that there stove isn’t working, doesn’t get hot, or has black glass is all down to the fuel being used.

For years we have been trying to educate our clients in the benefits of burning kiln dried logs.  We know the damage that burning wet wood does not only to the environment and our health, but also the damage that is caused to your stove and flue.

By switching to Kiln dried logs you will benefit from a hot and clean burn that produces less smoke and by getting your stove hotter you will be burning less fuel overall as optimum temperature is reached quicker plus you are burning at an environmentally friendly rate.

To be clear –
WOOD BURNING STOVES ARE NOT GOING TO BE BANNED, THE GOVERNMENT ARE HOWEVER CLAMPING DOWN ON THE TYPES OF FUEL THAT CAN BE BURNT ON THEM AND FROM 2022 ALL NEW STOVES NEED TO MEET A SET OF STRICT CLEAN BURNING CRITERIA UNDER ECO DESIGN!

Here at fire BY DESIGN, we are members of the SIA ( Stove Industry Alliance ) who have welcomed the announcement by Defra today (21/02/2020). They encourage the use of cleaner fuel and phase out the sale of coal and wet wood for domestic burning.

If you do have a stove or are considering purchasing one, please do not hesitate to contact out team, we are happy to answer any questions you may have, can recommend a local Kiln Dried Log Supplier and are able to offer the cleanest stoves in the industry right now!
