So I know it has been a while since my last post, Sarah and I have been rushed off our feet in the showroom since we returned from the Christmas break, which is great.. and will mean we will be recruiting a new team member soon to give us a hand with the day to day tasks.
There has been lots of noises coming from the industry since the launch of ECODESIGN in February. But what does it all really mean?
I have been delving into the stove world more and have some information about the scheme for you.
The Ecodesign Ready Scheme is a new landmark in the increasing environmental benefits of wood burning stoves..
Air quality is important to all of us. Even though wood burning stoves are a relatively low source of emissions, the SIA ( Stove Industry Alliance ) feel it is important to reduce emissions from wood burning stoves even further.
Ecodesign is the European-wide programme to lower emissions. It is due to come into force in the UK in 2022. The main manufacturers in the SIA have decided to release stoves that will meet the lower emission limits now, and from 2020 to only manufacture wood-burning stoves that meet the new Ecodesign criteria, two years ahead of schedule.
As with HD ready TVs the Ecodesign Ready label will inform consumers that the stove will meet the new stringent emission limits.
The Ecodesign Ready scheme is supported by DEFRA. The SIA Ecodesign Ready label will set the standard for the most environmentally friendly stoves available today.
The scheme is being overseen by HETAS, who will independently verify that the stoves pass the Ecodesign tests. The stoves will also appear in the HETAS Guide with the Ecodesign Ready label.
A full listing of the Ecodesign Ready stoves can be viewed by clicking here.
Here at fireBYDESIGN we have a number of the approved appliances already in the showroom, including stoves manufactured by Charnwood , Stovax and Nordpeis.
